Q: I heard you're one of FORTUNE magazine's 100 Best Companies To Work For. As a community member, why is this important to me?

A: When our colleagues are satisfied and happy with their job, it means great things for you and our entire community. Satisfied employees lead to satisfied patients. Whether you're a patient or visitor in our hospital, you'll encounter enthusiastic people who love their work and do their best to provide the best care possible. And that's what’s most important.

Q: How does FORTUNE choose the best companies to work for?

A: FORTUNE and San Francisco's Great Place to Work Institute conduct the most extensive survey in corporate America to determine which companies make the list. Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 employees is eligible. Two-thirds of each company's score is based on a 57-question survey which is sent to at least 400 randomly selected employees from each company. The survey asks about things such as attitudes toward management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The remaining score comes from an evaluation of each company's responses to questions about demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, management philosophy, internal communications, opportunities, diversity programs and more.

Q: Why is your health network a great place to work?

A: This question in best answered by the 9,000 people who work here. In a recent survey conducted by an independent organization, our colleagues were asked what they love most about working here. Many colleagues say they love the people they work with. We are committed to finding and keeping the most qualified people to care for the people of our community. When you work with experienced, knowledgeable people, you love your job.

Other colleagues say we are a great place to work because of our commitment to excellence in patient care and our great reputation. U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked us one of the nation's top hospitals in specialty care areas such as heart care. Plus, the American Nurses Credentialing Center designates us a Magnet hospital, meaning we are a "magnet" for the nation's best nurses.

Other colleagues say they appreciate the generous benefits package that offers 100 percent free health care, a flexible retirement plan, a $500 benefit colleagues can use to participate in health and wellness classes, and a generous amount of vacation and sick time.
